The game takes place after the events of Mortal Kombat 25 years after Shao Kahn was defeated by the forces of Earthrealm. With most of the Kombatants losing their lives in the process it was time for a new generation to step up. The fallen elder god Shinnok escapes from imprisonment and sets out to conquer Earthrealm once more with the help of Quan Chi and his undead army. Johnny Cage sets out with Sonya Blade Kenshi Fujin and Raiden to stop him once and for all. In an epic battle Johnny Cage defeats Shinnok and Raiden traps him in the amulet.
